Diamonds come in every color of the rainbow. Any diamond with a distinct color other
than yellow, brown, or gray (except if these have a color deep enough to be considered attractive)
are considered fancy color diamonds & are very rare & highly valuable. With the exception of rare fancy color
diamonds such as blue, pink, & red, colorless diamonds command the highest prices. A diamond is the only gem in
which the absence of color makes it more valuable. The color grading scale begins with the letter D, which is a
perfectly colorless diamond. D color diamonds are extremely rare. The scale continues down to Z, which is one that
we wouldn't care to see.
As the chart shows, diamonds in the G - J range are considered near colorless
diamonds and when mounted are very white stones. The color of a diamond is usually
easier to see than the minute imperfections in higher clarities. You might want
to keep this in mind if making a choice between good color & high clarity. Overview | Carat Weight | Cut | Clarity |
